Grants and Contracts for December 2011

The Research Foundation announces the following grants and contracts for December 2011. Award amounts are totals expected for the entire funding period. The list does not include supplements, modifications or other changes to existing grants or contracts. For awards that have more than one investigator, the first faculty member listed is the principal investigator.

RODGER HARVEY, professor and chair of ocean, earth and atmospheric sciences, "Chukchi Sea Offshore Monitoring in Drilling Area Hanna Shoal Ecosystem Study"; University of Texas at Austin, $396,335.

LOUIS JANDA, associate professor of psychology, "Colonial Behavioral Health Student Support"; Colonial Behavioral Health CSB, $3,500.

MEG LEMASTER, assistant professor of dental hygiene, "The Effectiveness of Velscope Versus the Clinical Examination in Detecting Oral Cancer in Cigarette and Hookah Smokers"; American Dental Hygiene Association, $5,005. Co-PIs from dental hygiene are AMANDA KIMBALL, graduate teaching assistant; TARA NEWCOMB, assistant professor; and HADEEL AYOUB, graduate teaching assistant.

SYLVAIN MARSILLAC, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, "Subcontract in Support of Nippon Electric Glass/Techneglas Grant"; University of Toledo, $150,000.

JIM SWANSON, professor of biological sciences, "EVMS Mitochondria and Oocyte Failure"; Eastern Virginia Medical School, $38,625.

STEVE TONELSON, professor; CHERYL BAKER, senior lecturer; and ROBERT GABLE, professor and Eminent Scholar, communication disorders and special education, "Traineeships for the Education of Special Education Personnel (Special Education: General Curriculum K-12 Endorsement Area Program)"; Virginia Department of Education, $272,864.
