About Belén Vivero Palmersmith:
Belén Vivero is an Ecuadorian composer, songwriter and former figure skater. She currently teaches Songwriting and Screen Scoring at ODU. Her music has appeared in short films, documentaries and TV including Vox News, RTVE (Spain), the WWE series and BBC iPlayer.
As a child, Belén received chemotherapy to treat leukemia and music was her best friend. As she grew up, practicing ice figure skating led her to discover her love for film music. She is a first-generation college graduate, completing her M.M in Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music, Valencia, Spain. She was able to study with a scholarship and had the opportunity to record one of her pieces at Abbey Road Studios with a 50-piece orchestra. In 2017, one of her pieces received the award for Best Vocal Song in a Film at the Garden State Film Festival.
In 2018, Belén released her first single "Lágrimas de Abril," a song dedicated to the thousands of victims affected by the devastating earthquake that hit the coast of Ecuador. The song won first place in Ecuador's nation-wide contest "Concurso Nacional Jóvenes del Pasillo." In 2019, this song was also nominated at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, Los Angeles. More recently, her song, "Soy Alguien Más" was a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
