2021 PACE Institute to Focus on Learning With Technology

Helen Crompton, an expert in educational technology and mobile learning, will give the keynote address at Old Dominion University's 2021 PACE (Program Acceleration for Collaborative Entrepreneurship) Institute on April 7. The virtual event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hosted by ODU's E-Collaborative, the institute will provide faculty and administrators an opportunity to focus on using innovation and cutting-edge tools and techniques to enhance learning and student engagement.
This year's conference is titled "Setting the Pace: Learning Through Innovation," and the theme of the day is self-directed learning, also known as heutagogy (HYOO-tuh-goh-jee).
Crompton, an associate professor of teaching and learning in the Darden College of Education & Professional Studies, will speak at 8:40 a.m. on how self-directed learning can help students build competency, capability and capacity with technology.
Kevin Moberly, program director for the IDS Game Design and Development major, will lead an interactive, self-directed gaming experience throughout the day.

The Institute is open to teaching and administrative faculty from higher education, community colleges and K-12 institutions. The event is free to members of the ODU community, but you must register by April 4. Register and see the full schedule at https://www.odu.edu/chip/pace.
"We are excited to open PACE to community educators this year," said Lisa Koperna, senior lecturer in rehabilitation sciences and co-convener of the E-Collaborative. "It is a true collaborative effort among our ODU faculty to share and engage on how innovation can spur learning and student engagement."
Giving the kick-off welcome at 8:30 will be Nancy Grden, executive director of the Strome Entrepreneurial Center and associate vice president of the ODU Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
"The Strome Entrepreneurial Center is proud to be a partner with the E-Collaborative, and to bring this year's PACE to the outside education community as well," said Grden. "One of our core values is that 'entrepreneurship and innovation are for everyone,' and PACE is a way to show through ideas and techniques how innovation can spur learning and foster student engagement."
PACE is supported through a generous gift from ODU alumnus Lee Entsminger through the Entsminger Entrepreneurship Fellows Program.
