Our Commitment
Based on how this committee would like Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to be manifested in our BCET College, our principles are as follows:
Diversity: We strive to enriching the diversity in our community with a welcoming environment. We acknowledge there are many aspects that describe human beings that also relate to the human experience. These include, but are not limited to: age, ethnicity, gender and gender expression, abilities, race, sexual orientation, religious status, geographical location, language, culture, socio-economic status, educational background, marital status, parental status, work experiences, military affiliation, and political perspective.
Equity: We will immediately and strongly respond and act against bias, harassment, and discrimination coming from any basis. In addition, we strongly commit to working actively to give everyone meaningful support to be successful and content (equity), which goes beyond treating everyone the same (equality).
Inclusion: We proactively educate, encourage, and provide opportunities for our diverse community to engage in activities in an environment where differences are respected and welcomed, and where every individual feels a sense of belonging.
Committee Members
We are currently divided in four subcommittees:
- Communication subcommittee: Our goal is to create a platform and channels to make our committee visible and facilitate the communication with our stakeholders.
- Curricular subcommittee: Our main immediate goals are: A. design a general course assignment that could potentially be used in any engineering class; B. discuss infusing changes in 1st year program classes and ethic classes; C. develop a study abroad class focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Student subcommittee: Our main immediate goal is to organize a town hall to discuss diversity, equity, and inclusion issues with our college students.
- Personnel search endeavors subcommittee: Our goal is to create a set of procedures to make sure all search committees in our College always consider diversity, equity, and inclusion in their endeavors.
