  • Dr. Colberg-Ochs specializes in diabetes and exercise research. A frequent lecturer around the world, she is the author of over 250 research and educational articles, 13 book chapters, and 10 books: The Diabetic Athlete (2001); Diabetes-Free Kids (2005); The 7 Step Diabetes Fitness Plan (2006); 50 Secrets of the Longest Living People with Diabetes (2007); The Science of Staying Young (2007); Matt Hoover's Guide to Life, Love, and Losing Weight (2008); The Diabetic Athlete's Handbook (2008); Diabetes? No Problema (2009); Exercise and Diabetes: A Clinician's Guide to Prescribing Physical Activity (2013); and The Diabetes Breakthrough (2014). At Old Dominion, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in exercise physiology, clinical exercise physiology, and nutrition for health, fitness, and sport. A graduate of UC Berkeley (PhD), UC Davis (MA), and Stanford University (BA), she has conducted research funded by the National Institutes of Health and the American Diabetes Association in collaboration with researchers in the College of Health Sciences and others at nearby Eastern Virginia Medical School, where she also serves as adjunct professor of Internal Medicine. A very active professional volunteer, she is also a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), a professional member of the American Diabetes Association, an advisory board member of dLife - For Your Diabetes Life (dLife.com), and an advisory board member for Insulindependence.org.
