Dr. Chaniece Winfield is an Assistant Professor of Human Services with Old Dominion University where she also serves as the Human Services Online Program Coordinator. Dr. Winfield has over 16 years of experience providing substance use disorder (SUD), mental health and play therapy services to individuals and families across the lifespan. She currently holds 9 behavioral health licenses which include but are not limited to the Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner, Master Addiction Counselor, as well as the Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor credentials.

She currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors for the Virginia Certification Board which oversees the credentialing of substance use professionals in Virginia on an international and national level. Since 2013, she has been an educator with Old Dominion University specializing in addiction education and clinical practitioner competency in the substance use and addiction field. Her research interests include addiction practitioner development, experiential teaching strategies, ethics, and the practitioner experience. She has several peer reviewed publications in national journals related to her area of expertise.

Dr. Winfield’s professional experience includes practice in both private and public agencies providing individual, group, and family services within outpatient, community based and educational settings. Within her 16 years of experience as a behavioral health professional, she specializes in providing counseling to low income, BIPOC and historically marginalized communities.

She has presented her research at several national conferences in the human services and addiction field. She has been an invited panelist, moderator and/or trainer with WHRO television, the Virginia Department of Health, as well as the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. She has been the recipient of several awards and honors related to her teaching innovation, contributions to the field human services through grantsmanship, as well as her mentorship and development of emerging human service professionals.
