Office of Clinical ExperiencesTEACH Grant

Through the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, Congress created the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program that provides grants to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families.

TEACH Grant Policy

Students interested in accessing funds through the TEACH grant program at Old Dominion University must adhere to the following policy.

  • Be admitted into an approved teacher education program. The teacher education program must be in a critical shortage area identified either by federal regulation or in the Top 5 Critical Shortage areas for the Virginia Department of Education in the academic year the student is admitted into the approved teacher education program.
  • Have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours towards the bachelor's degree program.
  • Complete the financial aid application through the FAFSA website studentaid.gov
  • Request a TEACH grant financial aid memo from the Office of Clinical Experiences 757-683-5179.
  • Wait to receive notification for joint counseling on TEACH grant program regulations from the ODU financial aid office.
  • Complete counseling sessions online as indicated in the financial aid email.
  • Be a U. S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25.
