Now in her tenth decade, Lorraine Fink creates works that bear witness to a life rich in experiences of discovery, joy, celebration, and at times memories of sadness. Fink earned a BFA degree at Old Dominion University in the 1970s while studying painting with professor Charles Sibley and print media with professor Ken Daley. She also was among the first students to complete the MFA program then offered jointly by Old Dominion and Norfolk State Universities.
Fink fills her two- and three-dimensional works with an exuberance that invites us to consider a deeper understanding of the nonlinear mythical and archetypal aspects of ourselves, and to the spiritual connections we have not only to ancestors, but to a living Earth. Her expressive energy personifies the well-known Hebrew toast, L'Chaim! — To Life!
