Real Estate Professor Gets Research Published by Top-Ranked Journal

A research paper authored by Walter D'Lima, Assistant Professor of Finance, was accepted into the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics. This is the top ranked real estate A level journal. This is his fourth publication in A level top ranked RE journals since joining ODU in 2018.

This paper finds that individual investors outperformed the market and exhibit timing ability. In addition, real estate investors earn larger returns if they live near the investment property, buy without a mortgage, and have experience in real estate investing. Overall, the paper highlights the risk and returns of residential real estate investments by retail investors.
