Research Description
The research efforts in the Guo laboratory include (1) the development of enhanced electric pulse (EP) technologies for tumor eradication, (2) the elucidation of mechanisms of immune responses induced by nanosecond electric pulse (nsEP) tumor ablation, and (3) the development of EP based combination approaches for cancer therapy. Long-term goal is to facilitate safe and effective EP technology-based cancer therapies for clinical applications.
By investigating the mechanisms of nsEP tumor ablation, Dr. Guo's group demonstrated that a single nsEP treatment can trigger multiple actions nullifying the immunosuppression in tumor so antitumor immunity can be induced. This feature of nsEPs could be utilized to develop a novel in situ vaccination strategy as cancer immunotherapy, especially for poorly immunogenic cancers including breast cancer and pancreatic cancer.
