ODU’s political science program provided a strong foundation for my ultimate career and service in maritime law.  As a Chesapeake, Virginia native, I was aware of the vibrant maritime industry in Eastern Virginia and wanted to be part of it.  Its global reach was fascinating.  For years I have represented first and foremost men and women who work on ships as crew, or load and unload ships in our harbors.  Little did I know the deep involvement in the maritime industry would lead me to be appointed a member of the Board of Commissioners of Virginia Port Authority, charged with overseeing the world-class Virginia marine terminals that move cargo in and out of the United States as part of the great global supply chain.  My ODU education opened the door for that involvement.  I will be forever grateful to ODU for the opportunity it provided me.
