Nutrition Study
The Human Performance Lab at ODU is completing a study to determine how the order of foods consumed within a meal affects perceptions, blood glucose, and fuel use during exercise. To achieve this, we are looking for individuals who are able to complete a 30-minute run without stopping. Over three visits, each participant will complete an InBody body composition test ($50 value), consume two free meals, do two moderate-intensity 30-minute treadmill runs, and undergo fingerstick blood glucose testing.
To be eligible, participants must meet the following criteria:
- 18-60 years of age
- Physically active (3 days/week) and able to perform moderate-to-high intensity running/jogging for at least 30 minutes
- Free from any allergy or condition that would preclude consumption of broccoli, rice, or poultry
- Free from any injury or disease that would preclude physical exercise (cardiovascular disease, chronic lung disease, etc.)
- Not currently pregnant
- Have no implanted electrical devices such as a pacemaker
This study is being conducted by a team including Patrick Wilson, PhD, RD, Associate Professor at Old Dominion University, and Brian Ferguson, M.S, ACSM-EP, doctoral candidate at Old Dominion University.
