- Description
- Habibi is the first full-length fictional feature filmed in the Gaza Strip. Director Susan Youssef, who has been named one of the “New Faces” to watch by Filmmaker Magazine, was on hand for a series of events in conjunction with its first screening in Hampton Roads. This included a screening of the film followed by a lively audience Q&A, a brown bag lunch with students, and participation in a colloquium on Arts, Popular Culture & Interfaith Understanding alongside Dr. Scott Girdner - Assistant Professor, Philosophy & Religious Studies at ODU and Rabbi Michael Panitz - Rabbi at Temple Israel in Norfolk. NOTABLES: The screening was attended by 447 people in the Hampton Roads community. The event was part of our engagement in conversations on interfaith understanding. This was the first of several events we’ve organized in collaboration with other units at ODU, including the Departments of Communication, Foreign Languages, Geography & Political Science, and Women’s Studies, The Graduate Program in International Studies, The Postcolonial Research Group, The College of Arts & Letters, The Honors College, The Office of Intercultural Relations, The Women’s Center, the ODU Alumni Association, the Office of Academic Affairs, and Student Enrollment & Engagement Services.
