- Description
- Winning art works from the 14th Annual Elie Wiesel Holocaust Visual Arts Competition for Students will be on display. The competition, run by the Holocaust Commission of the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater, invites students in grades 6–12 from all schools in Coastal Virginia to participate in both writing and visual arts categories. The main goal is to encourage students to apply lessons of history to moral decisions that they make daily.
The annual competitions are held in honor of Nobel laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel. Through studying the Holocaust and its ties to modern genocide, civil rights and other historical constructs, students explore the issues of moral courage as well as the dangers of prejudice, peer pressure and indifference. This exhibit celebrates the power of the human spirit and encourages moral courage and justice. It demonstrates the talent the students have applied to morally challenging questions. This exhibition is made possible through a partnership with the Holocaust Commission.
Exhibit continues through May 31, 2016.
Reception: May 18, 5 p.m.
