Description
In 2013, Old Dominion University acquired, as a gift from the Houlburg Family, the late Marilyn Houlburg's collection of works by one of Chicago's prolific and celebrated African American self-taught artists, Derek Webster. Unlike his other contemporaries, Webster had roots not in the American South but in Belize and Honduras in Central America. Included in the groundbreaking exhibition Black Art / Ancestral Legacy, Webster's sculpture and paintings dance with the rhythms and flash of carnival, and dazzle with their combined figural and abstract forms. Exhibit continues through September 22, 2016.
