Departmental Exams
Depending on the course, a faculty member might decide a comprehensive exam is the best method to assess your knowledge. Prior Learning Assessment arranges for departmental exams, but, please keep in mind that the exams are issued only upon approval of the academic department. Other assessment methods may be more appropriate for some courses.
If a CLEP exam is available for the course you want to challenge, and Old Dominion University accepts it for credit, the CLEP exam is the only option you may use. CLEP exams are not administered through the Office of Prior Learning Assessment, but rather the Credentialing Center. No faculty approval is needed to take a CLEP exam.
