Dear Colleague,

I am happy to let you know that two Old Dominion faculty members - Jennifer Fish and Ling Li - were among the 12 recipients of the 2021 Outstanding Faculty Awards announced today by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

All told, 35 Old Dominion faculty members have won the award. Only one institution in Virginia has had a larger total. That's news to celebrate in this otherwise sobering year.

Dr. Fish is professor and chair of the Department of Women's Studies. She has written four books, and her research - in subjects including labor and human rights - has been cited by agencies including the United Nations' International Labour Organization. Dr. Fish's passion for human rights has led her to produce four documentaries and create a service program with students to help immigrants settling in Virginia.

Dr. Li is University Professor, Eminent Scholar and chair of the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences. Her research specialties include supply chain analytics and health care management, and she directs our master's program in maritime trade and supply chain management. Dr. Li has published more than 140 peer-refereed journal articles and won several awards for her teaching, research and service.

I also want to acknowledge the other faculty members whom we nominated this year for the award: Nikos Chrisochoides, Justin Haegele (Rising Star), Katherine Hammond, Sandeep Kumar and Richard Zimmerman.

Drs. Fish and Li will receive their awards in a virtual ceremony on March 2. They and our other nominees are all fine representatives of the breadth and quality of the work and commitment that our faculty members demonstrate every day.
