Engineers Week Scheduled for Feb. 21 to 25

By Sherry DiBari

Old Dominion University's Batten College of Engineering and Technology will celebrate Engineers Week 2022 with in-person events and activities related to this year's national theme: Reimagining the Possible.

Engineers Week (EWeek) was founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers in 1951. The event, organized nationally by DiscoverE, is "dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers."

"ODU Engineers Week is an invitation to celebrate the positive impact that the engineering profession has had and will continue to have on society," said Rafael Landaeta, associate professor and associate dean in the Batten College. "Middle and high school students, teachers and counselors, as well as ODU students, and other University constituencies are invited to participate in our 'Reimaging the Possible' EWeek events."

At ODU, the weeklong celebration includes a pop-up advising event, discussion panels about the different engineering departments and lab tours for area high school students.

On Feb. 22, Sharon Monica Jones, guest lecturer and deputy director for the Transformative Aeronautics Concepts Program within the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate at NASA headquarters, will give a presentation related to the theme: Reimagining the Possible - What Engineers Do.

The presentation, open to the public, will be held in the Engineering & Computational Sciences Building (ECSB) auditorium from 12:20 to 1:20 p.m.
