“Echoes: Transcending Through Story” Opens Feb. 20 at Goode Theatre

"Echoes: Transcending Through Story," an original work written and directed by Old Dominion University alumna Brittany S. Harris and produced by ODURep, opens an eight-show run on Feb. 20 at the Goode Theatre.

Uncovering poetry from pain, Harris and her cast members create an emotionally and visually stunning work, centered on experiences from their lives, and shine a light on female anger, despair and strength. The production draws from Ntozake Shange's "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/ When the Rainbow Is Enuf" and uses "Rainbow of Desire" techniques designed by Brazilian dramatist Augusto Boal to confront internalized oppression.

Harris, a visiting professor of theatre at ODU, holds a bachelor's degree in acting and theatre performance with a minor in communication from the University.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20 to 22 and 26 to 29 and 2 p.m. March 1. Tickets are available at ODUArtsTix.com. Free parking is available in Garage D, 1070 W. 45th St.
