Across Campus - A Photo Essay

Natalia Pilato is the director of art education at Old Dominion University and the founder of Neighborhood Markers. Pilato, known for her murals, led a project to paint a 1,500-square-foot mural on the exterior wall of the CHKD Thrift Store in Norfolk's NEON District. Her vision was to have teens and adults assist in the "paint-by-number" process to create 63 5-by-5-foot panels that were designed by ODU students with community input. Partners in the project included the Downtown Norfolk Council, P.B. Young Senior Elementary School, Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Young Terrace Community Center and the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters. Photos Chuck Thomas and David B.
