SEES Leader Earns Recognition From National Organization

By Joe Garvey

Jane Dané, associate vice president for enrollment management at Old Dominion University, was recently presented with the National Association of Student Personnel Administrator's (NASPA) inaugural Outstanding Enrollment Management Professional Award.

The award recognizes those who contribute to enrollment programs and initiatives on their campuses through research and/or through NASPA or other professional associations. Her demonstrated leadership and commitment to the field was recognized March 13 at NAPSA's annual conference in Los Angeles.

Dané, who came to ODU in 2011, oversees a number of key units, including admissions, student financial aid, the registrar's office, the customer relations management team, the Center for Major Exploration and Mane Connect Success Coaching, and the Student Transition and Family Programs.

"This is a well-deserved honor for Jane," said Ellen Neufeldt, vice president for Student Engagement and Enrollment Services (SEES). "She has been a leader in the enrollment field for more than 30 years. Her efforts have positively impacted the lives of thousands of students from all walks of life."

Dané has played a key role in a number of initiatives at ODU. Among them:

  • Leading a team that created the University's first Strategic Enrollment Plan, which encompassed key performance indicators and associated action plans for marketing, recruitment and retention, academic support, facilities and financial support.
  • Serving as ODU's lead for the Online Virginia Network (OVN), a partnership with George Mason University and the Virginia Community College System that provides statewide online programs targeted to degree completers.
  • Playing a critical role in establishing ODU's Military Connection Center and leading a task force to implement a discounted tuition rate for active-duty military students. The University's enrollment is 25 percent military affiliated.
  • Spearheading efforts to use data analytics and predictive modeling for outreach to at-risk student populations.
  • Working with the graduate enrollment task force, which has helped to stem several years of graduate enrollment declines.
