Severe Weather Awareness Week Events Scheduled at ODU
The University will host a tornado drill education exhibit and a panel discussion for Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Old Dominion University will host two events in conjunction with Severe Weather Awareness Week.
A tornado drill and education exhibit will be on display from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. March 19 at North Webb Center. The exhibit, sponsored by the Office of Emergency Management and Department of Political Science and Geography, will feature information about severe weather, emergency management and educational opportunities. Preparedness materials, an interactive quiz and educational information will be provided. The Emergency Alert System (EAS) will be activated at 9:45 a.m. as part of the Virginia Statewide Tornado Drill, simulating what people would hear or see during an actual tornado warning.
A severe weather awareness panel discussion is scheduled for 12:15-1:15 p.m. March 21 in room 1005 in Constant Hall. Jeff Orrock, Meteorologist-in-Charge, National Weather Service, Wakefield Forecast Office; Jim Redick, Emergency Manager for the City of Norfolk; and April Loveland, WTKR-TV meteorologist will discuss forecasting, emergency management and communicating severe weather threats in Hampton Roads.
