Cook-Off to Raise Awareness of Alzheimer's Disease

Vice President for Student Enrollment and Engagement Services, Ellen Neufeldt, and Women's Basketball Coach, Nikki McCray, will compete against each other in the ODU "Longest Day Cook-Off Challenge," on behalf Alzheimer's Disease Awareness.

The cook-off is scheduled for April 5, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Kate and John R. Broderick Dining Commons. The event is featured in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association - Southeastern Virginia Chapter in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease.

Faculty and Staff may eat with donation towards the Alzheimer's Association Southeastern Virginia Chapter. Students with meal plans may donate with a swipe.

Special guests president and Mrs. John R. Broderick will serve as judges.

Faculty and staff may eat with a donation toward the Alzheimer's Association of Southeastern Virginia Chapter. All donations will be collected and given to the Alzheimer's Association.

According to Alzheimer's Association, 5.7 million people are currently living with Alzheimer's disease. By 2050, this number is projected to rise to nearly 14 million.

Alzheimer's Disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and 16.1 million Americans provide unpaid care for people with Alzheimer's or other dementias.

"Longest Day" activities are a way for groups across the world to get together and do what they love on the longest day of the year, which falls on June 21.

In an effort to get the largest possible participation, ODU's Longest Day Cook-off comes a little early, before the end of the spring semester.
