With the opening of the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games this past weekend, the world's eyes have been collectively focused on a long troubled and frequently misunderstood region of Russia. To help provide context to the security threats and other challenges organizers face, National Geographic recently published a primer that included valuable historical perspective from ODU's Austin Jersild.

Rodger Harvey, interim vice president for research, chats with Cindy Matney (left), director of sponsored programs with the ODU Research Foundation, and Karen Eck, director of research development, before the start of the Faculty Forum on Indirect Costs Tuesday in Webb Center. Harvey led the program, which was targeted to investigators who want to know the difference between direct and indirect costs, what gets included in the facilities and administrative rate, if every grant gets charged indirect costs, how the university uses the money and how funds get distributed.
