Women’s Caucus Sponsoring Talk on Affordable Care Act by Former State Health Commissioner

The ODU Women's Caucus will sponsor a presentation and Q&A about the Affordable Care Act at noon Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the Hampton/Newport News Room of Webb Center.

This brown bag lunch will feature Dr. Karen Remley, former health commissioner for the commonwealth of Virginia, who resigned over regulations that would require abortion facilities to meet strict, hospital-style building standards that many clinics say would put them out of business. Two clinics have closed already.

Remley is now the founding director of the Eastern Virginia Medical School's M. Foscue Brock Institute for Community and Global Health, which is focused on leveraging EVMS's clinical, research and educational programs to positively affect specific health priorities in Hampton Roads.

Her discussion will focus on how the Affordable Care Act impacts women.
