Alumni Reception to Honor ODU’s Igloria and Raisor; Reservations Due Oct. 3

Friends of the ODU M.F.A. program in creative writing will host "ODU Poets in Motion," an alumni reception Monday, Oct. 7, in honor of Luisa Igloria and Phil Raisor for their outstanding work as writers, teachers and mentors to ODU alumni and students.

Igloria, professor of English, is the director of the ODU M.F.A. Creative Writing Program and Raisor, professor emeritus of English, is a former chair of the ODU English department.

The reception, which will be from noon to 1 p.m. in the River Rooms of Webb Center, is supported by the English department, the M.F.A. program and the ODU Alumni Association. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by Thursday, Oct. 3, to Linda Hero at lhero@odu.edu or 683-3991.

Following the reception, Igloria and Raisor will read from their work at the 36th annual

ODU Literary Festival, "Migrations: Words in Motion," in a program that begins at 2:30 in Chandler Recital Hall of the Diehn Center for the Performing Arts.

Igloria's new collection of poetry is titled "The Saints of Streets." Her previous works include "Juan Luna's Revolver" and "Trill & Mordent." Raisor is the author of a recently published poetry collection titled "Swimming in the Shallow End" and "Outside Shooter: A Memoir."
