ITS Project Management Office Celebrates Recent Accomplishments

The ITS Project Management Office (PMO) held an awards celebration last week to recognize more than 30 employees for their professional development growth and achievements in the project management realm. ITS PMO oversees IT projects for ODU - from expanding the campus wireless network to maintaining and upgrading major systems like Blackboard and Banner; ITS project managers and the PMO work behind the scenes, providing leadership and guidance.

ITS PMO was founded in 2009 with the initial mission of tracking ODU's technology-related projects. It has grown significantly in the last year and expanded its role to provide the university community with IT project management training, guidance and oversight - including implementation of its comprehensive tracking system, GAMEPLAN, in 2012.

According to Ann Bennis, director of IT policy and the Project Management Office, ITS currently has more than 80 active IT projects under way and things are just getting cooking.

"This past year we've seen tremendous efficiency improvements in the administration of IT projects, which means money saved for the university. The PMO has put planning, training and professional development as top priorities in the coming year, so I'm confident that this trend will continue," said Bennis.

ITS employee Bern Runk was honored during the celebration as the project manager who invested the most time into expanding his knowledge of project management.
