Norfolk Police to Host Safety Event for Universities

Students from four universities will gather tonight to learn about crime prevention from Norfolk Police Department personnel.

About 40 student representatives from Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University and Tidewater Community College will take part in the police department's Student Safety Consortium.

Norfolk police organized the event to improve safety on college campuses through the distribution of crime prevention information. Crime prevention personnel will also explain the benefits of setting up a Student Watch program.

After the event, the participating students will serves as ambassadors on their campuses, sharing the information they learned using social networking, newsletters and websites.

The event will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Police Training Division, located at 2500 N. Military Hwy.
