3 Credits

This course introduces students to communication theories and research in the contexts of families and family relationships. The course relies on systems theory, social constructionist theory, and developmental theory as it increases students' understanding of the role of communication in the creation, maintance, and transitioning of family units and family relationships over the human life span.

A positive approach to family communication is emphasized featuring the role of communication in providing resources for the empowerment of family participants and the enhancement of  family units and family relationships.
