Santa Ana Winds: A hot dry desert wind blowing from the east in the pass and river
valley of Santa Ana, CA. It can blow with great force and do damage to the fruit trees
in spring.
Foehn: a warm dry wind flowing down the lee side of mountains occurring in nearly all
mountain areas. The name originated in the Alps.

Puelche in the Andes Mountains.
Sirocco in Italy, which brings moisture into Spain, Italy and Greece, and also severe
headaches.
Leveccio in Spain.
Chamsin in Egypt.
Kona in Hawaii.
Foeh in Austria.
Tauem wind in Salzburg.
Vent der Midi in Lyons.
Ghilbi, Simoom, and Dzhani in the Sahara in Africa.
Sharav in the Mideast.
Karaburan in Asia.
Halny Wiatr in Poland.
Ljuka in Yugoslavia.
Bhoot in India.
Haboob in Egypt.
Brickfielder in Australia.
Sky Sweeper in Majorca.
Aspre in France.

And in New Zealand, it is called a Canterbury Northwester. How come? The foehn is
from the northwest and blows over the Canterbury Plains.
