COURSE OBJECTIVES
Knowledge:
1. Acquire basic knowledge relative to cardiovascular dynamics during rest and exercise.
2. Acquire basic knowledge relative to the effects of aerobic and anaerobic training, as well as strength training on adaptations to exercise with implications for performance and health. Gender differences are also discussed.
3. Acquire basic knowledge regarding the efficacy of purported ergogenic aids as a means to enhance sport performance.
4. Acquire basic knowledge relative to the effects of environmental factors, such as temperature and altitude, on the adaptations to acute and chronic exercise.
5. Acquire basic knowledge relative to the effects of the aging process on physical performance, and the implications of exercise programs for performance and health throughout the lifespan.
6. Demonstrate through five examinations that the knowledge base has been attained.
Skills:
7. Be able to determine target heart rates for aerobic training programs.
8. Be able to calculate heat stress under various environmental conditions used to determine feasibility of athletic competition.

9. Appreciate the health benefits of exercise.
