A continuation of Exercise Physiology I, focusing on cardiovascular dynamics during rest and exercise, and on applied exercise physiology, specifically the effects of specific training modes, environmental factors, aging, gender, nutrition, and ergogenic aids on health and performance.
Introduction
This course is the second part of two sequential courses designed to provide detailed coverage of the physiological responses and adaptations to acute and chronic exercise. Following coverage of the cardiovascular system, the effects of aerobic and anaerobic training on physiological adaptations to exercise will be covered, along with the effects of various factors on exercise performance, including gender, ergogenic aids, different environmental conditions, the aging process, and various ergogenic aids, including certain nutrients.
Educational Opportunities
The general instructional mode will be a lecture format. Questions are welcome at any time during the class lecture. Key videos and in-class laboratory demonstrations may be used to demonstrate certain physiological principles of exercise as well.
Students who email the instructor Monday through Thursday can ordinarily expect a response within 48 hours. Friday or weekend e-mails will normally be answered by 5:00 on Monday. Students who have a true emergency should call the instructor's office to leave a message or indicate the nature of the emergency in an email message.
