This course emphasizes the role of nutrition as a means to enhance health and performance in sport. Topics covered include principles of healthful nutrition, energy metabolism and nutrients, regulation of metabolism by vitamins and minerals, and weight control.
This course is designed to provide the student with a knowledge base in nutrition as it relates to enhancement of health and exercise performance. Students should acquire the knowledge necessary to teach a nutrition unit in a health course at the elementary or secondary school level or to counsel individuals on healthful nutrition practices in a medically oriented health or fitness facility.
Students who e-mail the instructor Monday through Thursday can ordinarily expect a response withing 48 hours. Friday or weekend e-mails will normally be answered by 5:00 on Monday.
