Pre-requisites: Graduate Standing, ESPR 630
A hands-on, in-depth experience involving the principles of diagnostic exercise assessment, the basics of cardiovascular physiology and ECG interpretation, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) guidelines for exercise testing, and exercise prescription for symptomatic and asymptomatic populations.
Introduction
This course is designed to advance the professional development of the graduate student in physical education and related disciplines, with the intent to provide a clear understanding of and enhanced skills in the testing of the fundamental principles of clinical exercise physiology as applied to sport, physical activity, and disease prevention.
Educational Opportunities
The general instructional for this class will consist of short lectures (to present topics and methods of testing) and hands-on laboratory testing conducted by students themselves. Questions are welcome at any time during the class lectures and labwork. All students will also be afforded the opportunity to practice presentation of their case study, testing results, and recommended exercise prescriptions in front of the rest of the class and the course instructor.
Students who email the instructor Monday through Thursday can ordinarily expect a response within 48 hours. Friday or weekend emails will normally be answered by 5:00pm on Monday. Students who have a true emergency should call the instructor’s office to leave a message or indicate the nature of the emergency in an email message.
