Facilities & Equipment

Alfriend Chemistry Building
Alfriend Chemistry is the main chemistry building at ODU. While our labs are in Alfriend, several other chemistry professors have recently moved to the new Science Wing of OCNPS.
Alfriend Chemistry Building: Room 205
Room 205 is a 1000 sq. ft. wet lab with 3 hoods which we share with Dr. L. Greene.
Alfriend Chemistry Building: Room 209
Room 209 is our joint cell culture facility. We have three water-jacketed CO2 cell incubators, a large laminar flow hood, a biosafety cabinet, inverted and stereomicroscopes, and a large autoclave.
Alfriend Chemistry Building: Room 206
Room 206 is our biochemistry instrumentation room, and contains a new Cary 5000 UV/Vis/NIR spectrometer, Cary Eclipse fluorometer, and API 2000 LC/MS system.
API 2000 LCMS
Our API 2000 LCMS system. This system consists of an Agilent 1200 HPLC system coupled to an API 2000 triple-quad mass spectrometer.
MiniPartisol
We use our portable MiniPartisol air sampler to collect samples of airborne particulate matter from all over Virginia.
COSMIC
We also use the advanced facilities at COSMIC—the College of Sciences Major Instrumentation Cluster. We make extensive use of their 12 T FTICR-MS.
