Discussion II: What is Literacy? You all will be divided into pairs. In these groups you will have 60 minutes to conduct internet research on the question: What is literacy? To answer this question, you should not, of course, just go to Wikipedia. Your group, instead, should strategize an approach to study what literacy is. Think of a context where literacy happens, think about the adjectives we place in front of literacy, or think about the way literacy is discussed in society. For example, one pair may want to go to various college websites to see how they do or do not address the issue of literacy. Think about your inquiry as a way to help your peers expand their understanding of what literacy is and what it can be. At the end of sixty minutes each pair will be asked to give a five minute presentation on their findings. To help your peers with their future inquiries, you are encouraged to type up your notes or use PowerPoint for your presentation. Post your final products to the Open Forum on the Blackboard Discussion Board.
