Postmodern/Feminist Research

Purpose

From a postmodern/feminist perspective, research is a rhetorical practice that is designed to help those one studies, especially when the participants may not already be enfranchised. Today we will discuss research informed by postmodernism and feminism to discuss what the researcher (and participants) gain and what they loose.

Discussion: Understanding research as postmodern and feminist

As a class we will discuss the following questions:

  • What questions did you have about the readings?
  • What are the definitions of validity and reliability?
  • What anxieties do you have about the IRB Proposal?
  • Why would a researcher design a postmodern map and how does one design it?
  • What is triangulation and how can it be rhetorically grounded?
  • What does an ecofeminist approach to research value?
  • How does the use of the digital media to report one's research–as opposed to the traditional print media–support a feminist agenda?

Workshop: iMovie

During the second half of class, Katie Retzinger will be teaching you how to use iMovie which you can use to compose your Multimodal Argument.
