Other Research Considerations

Purpose

We will continue our discussion of digital writing research by looking at how the technology poses new challenges to researchers of writing, but also offers them powerful tools to facilitate the process of studying how people compose with these technologies.

Discussion: Understanding research as postmodern and feminist

As a class we will discuss the following questions:

• What questions did you have about the readings?
• How should one establish her/his ethos as a researcher when one's access to the participants is through the technology?
• How does the participant's use of technology change a researcher's approach to ethnographic research?
• How are new technologies being used to facilitate digital writing research? What technologies do you use that might facilitate the research process?
• What is coding? What considerations do you need to make to code one's digital writing data effectively?

Workshop: IRB

During the second half of class, you will have an opportunity to ask the instructor questions about the IRB Application and use class time to start this project.
