Introduction

Welcome to my website. I'm a linguist and a teacher in the Department of English at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. With my colleagues, Bridget Anderson, Janet Bing, and Iryna Kozlova, I teach courses in support of the department's master's program in applied linguistics (both sociolinguistics and TESOL tracks) and undergraduate linguistics classes for English and education majors. I also contribute to the rhetoric and textual studies track of the Ph.D. in English. My research focuses on functional approaches to language structure, in particular the ways in which meaning and participant interaction contribute to grammatical and lexical patterning in English conversations.
