James A. Marken, Assistant Professor of Instructional Design & Technology
Welcome to my faculty page! I obtained my Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University in the summer of 2006, and have been on the faculty of Old Dominion University since the fall of that year.
My research interests center on issues in Human Performance, especially in international contexts. I am currently working with colleagues here in the ID&T program on a US History project with a local elementary school, and on a Needs Analysis focusing on the needs of local teachers in Modeling and Simulation.
I teach classes in Needs Analysis, Task Analysis, Human Performance Technology, Knowledge Management, and other human performance related areas. I've been involved with projects in the US Navy's Human Performance Center, and I am working on being involved with other local organizations who use instructional design to improve human performance.
In my personal life, I am a proud father to three great kids; in what spare time I have I enjoy reading, gaming, and information mining on the web.
I am happy to talk with anyone who is interested in Instructional Design at ODU or in issues of human performance and the role instructional designers have in helping people perform at their best. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
