EXTRA CREDIT

Students have the opportunity to obtain extra credit through participation in a variety of campus and off-campus events. In order to receive extra credit for participating in these events, the following requirements must be fulfilled:

  • Attend the event.
  • Submit a one page summary of the event (typed, double-spaced) that includes: a) the name of the event, b) who participated in the event, and c) a description of the event and what you learned.
  • Attach the chit (ticket) provided at the event to your paper to verify your attendance at the event.
  • The paper must be submitted no later than one week after the event or it will not be accepted.

Each student can attend up to two (2) events (5 points per event).  Extra credit points will be added to your final point score at the end of the semester.

Events for Spring 2012 will be added to the list below when they are announced.  You can also suggest an event to your instructor who will approve or reject it.

January

February

February 6 - - Civil Rights activist Ruby Bridges will deliver the Keynote Lecture for Black History Month.  Location:  North Cafe, Webb Center.  Time:  7 pm.

February 28 - - Jehmu Greene, commentator, media maker, activist and campaigner has led the way for many female candidates.  She will give a talk "Engaging the Millennial Generation."  Location:  Cape Charles Room, Webb Center.  Time:  12:30-1:30 pm.

March

March 20 - - Trained as an electrical-engineer, Immaculee Ilibagiza, Rwandan genocide survivor and author, recounts her tale of survival and renewal against a background of a genocidal regime.  The Marc and Connie Raoul Wallenberg Humanitarian Speaker, ODU's Presidential Lecture Series.  Location:  Webb University Center.  Time:  7:30 pm.

April

April 23 - - Jean-Michel Cousteau, marine explorer, environmental activist, educator, and filmmaker will speak about our water planet.  Location:  Webb University Center.  Time:  7:30 pm.
