EXTRA CREDIT

Students have the opportunity to obtain extra credit through participation in a variety of campus and off-campus events. In order to receive extra credit for participating in these events, the following requirements must be fulfilled:

  • Attend the event
  • Submit a one page summary of the event (typed, double-spaced) that includes a) the name of the event, b) who participated in the event, and c) a description of the event and what you learned.
  • Attach the chit (ticket) provided at the event to your paper to verify your participation in the event
  • The paper must be submitted no later than one week after the event or it will not be accepted

Each student can attend up to two (2) events (5 points per event).  Extra credit points will be added to your final point score at the end of the semester.

Events for Fall 2009 will be added to this list when they are announced.  You can suggest an event to your instructor who will approve or reject it.

September

September 17 - - Constitution Day panel,  "A Supremely Political Court: The Making of a Justice."  Location:  Chandler Recital Hall, Diehn.  Time:  Reception: 6:30-7 pm and Program: 7-8:45 pm

October

October 1 - - Waldo Family Lecture Series on International Relations presents Zbigniew Brzezinski, former National Security Advisor for President Jimmy Carter.  Location: North Cafeteria, Webb Center.  Time: 7:30-9 pm

October 28 - - Candidate's Forum with the Democratic and Republican candidate for the 80th House District in the Virginia General Assembly.  Sponsored by the Student Government Association, VA 21 (ODU Chapter), College Democrats, and College Republicans.  Come with questions!  Location:  MGB 102.  Time:  Reception 6-6:30 pm.  Program:  6:30-7:30 pm.

November 

November 5 - - Dr. Holly Gaff, ODU Professor of Community and Environmental Health will give a talk on  "H1N1: Is the Sky Really Falling?"  Location:  BAL 9024.  Program:  12:30-1:30 pm.

November 10 - - A film screening of "The Wall: The Making and Breaking of the Berlin Wall" followed by a panel discussion.  Location: BAL 9024.  Time:  12:15-1:45 pm.

November 11 - - Dr. Brian Payne, ODU History Department, will give a talk on "Our Marine Environment from a Historical Perspective."  Sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs.  Location:  Chesapeak and Portsmouth Rooms in Webb Center.  Time:  12-1 pm.

November 12 - - Dr. Kenneth McLennan, Adjunct Professor at ODU and the College of William of Mary will give a talk on "Obamacare: Who Wins and Who Loses?"  Location:  BAL 9024.  Program:  12:30-1:20 pm.
