Anil received his Ph.D. from New York University's Stern School of Business in 1998, with a major in Management and minor in International Business. 

His teaching and research interests are in Strategic Management, International Business (especially issues in emerging markets), Innovation and Entrepreneurship. 

At ODU, Anil has taught courses in the undergraduate, MBA, Ph.D. and Executive programs.     

Anil's current research areas include: competitive dynamics, institutional theory, decision making, risk management and corporate governance. He is a member of ODU's Emergent Risk Initiative (ERI) team. He has presented his research in various forums in Hampton Roads such as World Affairs Council, Institute of Asian Studies at ODU, Friends of ODU Perry Library, Inside Business Conference, etcHe consults with firms in their strategic planning process and has delivered talks on issues in strategic planning and international business. 

He was the program Chair of the Entrepreneurship/Technology Management track of the Asia Academy of Management meetings for 2010 and Chair of the Professional Development Workshop for Academy of Management (AAM division) 2010 meetings in Montreal.  He served as the co-Guest Editor (with Dr. Shaomin Li) of a special issue of Corporate Governance: An International Review on Corporate Governance in China and India.  He serves as the Senior Editor,  Asia Pacific Journal of Management, a journal of the Asia Academy of Management. APJM has been included in the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI).  He will serve as the Secretary of Asia Academy of Management.

Anil was actively involved in supporting Norfolk Sister City Association establish a sister city relationship between Norfolk and Kochi, India

He won the College of Business and Public Administration Awards for Research in 2002-2003, Service in 2005-2006, and Teaching in 2008-2009.
