Arnett Wins International Screenwriting Award

Robert Arnett, director of film studies and associate professor of communication and theatre arts, has won a PAGE International Screenwriting Award for his historical screenplay, "Datsun Saves." More than 3,800 entries were submitted, placing Arnett's script in the top 1 percent.

Sen. John W. Warner to Speak at ODU for Waldo Family Lecture Series Thursday

John W. Warner, U.S. senator from Virginia, will be the guest speaker for the Waldo Family Lecture Series on International Relations at Old Dominion University Thursday, Oct. 9. The time for the talk has been changed to 7:30 p.m. and will be held in the North Cafeteria of Webb University Center.

ODU's Bioelectrics Center and Vision Lab Get $1.6 million in DOD Funding for Casualty Care

Two research and development arms of Old Dominion University, the Frank Reidy Research Center for Bioelectrics and the Computational Intelligence and Machine Vision Laboratory, will receive $1.6 million under the Department of Defense's 2009 fiscal year budget appropriation to study new ways for the U.S. military to minimize casualties and deal with them more successfully when they do occur.

Serfaty Awarded Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur

Simon Serfaty, eminent scholar and professor of U.S. foreign policy in Old Dominion University's international studies graduate program, has been named a Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur (a knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honor) by French President M. Nicolas Sarkozy.

Doctoral Student to Speak on Sea Circulation Along Antarctic Peninsula Today

Andrea Pinones, a doctoral student in the Old Dominion University Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, will speak on "Circulation on the Western Antarctic Peninsula and Implications for Biological Production," at a fall seminar of ODU's Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6.

ODU Engineering College to Host Open House Oct. 9

The Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology at Old Dominion University will host a fall open house for prospective students, parents, teachers and counselors from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 9, in Kaufman Hall. The event is designed to share information about the college's programs and facilities and to introduce high school students to fields of study in engineering.

VMASC Contract with USJFCOM Worth Up to $35.6 Million Over Six Years

Old Dominion University's Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC) has been awarded a contract worth up to $35.6 million to provide engineering and technical services, as well as faculty-student services to the Joint Forces Command (JFCOM) of the U.S. military.
