On January 13, 1913, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington D.C. by twenty-two undergraduate women. Our founders were dedicated to establishing an organization committed to the promotion of high cultural, intellectual and moral standards among its members for the benefit of society as a whole.


Over the years, Delta Sigma Theta maintains its commitment to the community by defining itself as a sisterhood based on public service. Delta has established a long and glorious history of educational, cultural, political, and social service in the public's interest. To maintain a bond and unified committment throughout the sisterhood, Delta Sigma Theta operates under a

Today, our great sisterhood consists of almost 900 National and International chapters. Delta Sigma Theta is the largest predominantly Black fraternal organization in the world. Sustained by the bonds of sisterhood, the challenges and successes of over 90 years inspire over 200,000 members today, and assures us that our organization and its efforts will continue making history through every member's unique contribution of womanhood, skill, spirit, and commitment.


With a history so rich and so profound, it is our duty as members of Delta Sigma Theta to uphold the defined commitment to our communities as we grow in our beloved sisterhood.
