VICTOR HUGO—HAMPTON ROADS YOUTH WIND ENSEMBLE, DIRECTOR/CONDUCTOR, SAXOPHONE, CLARINET

Conductor Victor Hugo, a Virginia Beach native and alumnus of Kempsville High School, is experienced in conducting both vocal and instrumental genres. He has conducted several church choirs and has taught band at the middle and high school levels. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Old Dominion University, studying saxophone under Dennis Zeisler. He then earned a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, studying conducting under Malcolm Rowell Jr. He directed the Pioneer Valley Wind Symphony and the UMass Youth Wind Ensemble from 1995 to 1996. Hugo is director of bands at King’s Fork Middle School in Suffolk and plays saxophone with the Virginia Wind Symphony. He founded the highly successful Hampton Roads Youth Wind Ensemble, a 50-piece high school age group for the Community Music Division in 1999.
