Parallel - work part-time and study full or part-time during consecutive semesters.
Alternating - work full-time one semester, attend classes the next, repeat until graduation.
The International Career Advantage Program (ICAP) can help you find an internship outside of the country.
International students are eligible to do internships through Curricular Practical Training (CPT), a CPT Workshop is required.
To get credit for your internship/co-op experience, most academic programs require:
- Attend one AL Internship/Co-op Orientation
- Meet with Arts & Letters CMC staff member (in person or email) to have your resume reviewed/approved, and go over Requirements
- Upload approved resume to CareerLink
- Search for internships
- Contact Department faculty Internship Coordinator department guidelines and to get final approval once internship has been secured
- Submit Learning Contract
- Attend one BU Internship/Co-op Orientation and/or Schedule an Appointment with CMC Staff member (in person or virtual)
- Get Resume approved and upload resume to CareerLink
- Meet prerequisite requirements and maintain 2.0 GPA
- Use CareerLink and other tools to search for Internships
- Complete Internship/Co-op Experience in CareerLink, print for signatures and return to CMC, 1011 Constant Hall
- Requirements for Paper
- Attend one EN CAP Orientation
- Attend EN CAP Training #1
- Attend EN CAP Training #2
- Have your resume reviewed (can be done electronically via email)
- Upload your approved resume to CareerLink
- Maintain at least a 2.0 GPA
- Report Requirements

- Contact the Internship Coordinator and have your resume reviewed, go over Requirements, and find out the approved internship locations
- Fill out the Learning Contract and return it to Erin Mills along with an electronic version of your job description to be registered for credit.
- Once registered log onto Blackboard* to submit your internship report electronically for a grade at the end of the semester (Report Instructions).
- Meet with your undergraduate advisor to determine where an internship will fit in your schedule and overall degree plan.
- Speak with your financial aid counselor to determine if your financial aid will cover the cost of your trip.
- Check out potential companies who may offer an international internship in your major.
- Choose a company, location and be prepared to talk about how you will fund your experience before making an appointment.
