Description
In this panel discussion we would like to explore the significance that plays into an individuals sense of identity and self-concept in the labels or names that are placed on them as a culture and as individuals. Throughout history various cultural groups within the United Stated have found themselves referenced by various labels (i.e. Hispanic, Latino, Chicano, African-American, Black, Colored etc). The questions that this discussion would like to present is the following: How do you identify yourself? And why? Has this changed over the years? Is there a need for a consistent label? Why or why not? If so, who should determine what label to use?
