Insurance Expert to Lecture on Climate Change at ODU

By Cindy Clayton - The Virginian-Pilot - February 13, 2012

An international insurance executive will talk about the impact of climate change and rising sea levels on the insurance industry later this month during a symposium at Old Dominion University.

Lindene Patton, chief climate product officer for Zurich Financial, will lead the symposium at 7 p.m. on Feb. 20 in the Ted Constant Convocation Center's Big Blue Room, according to a university news release. The event is free and open to the public.

The talk is sponsored by ODUs Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Initiative and the College of Business and Public Administration.

Patton will discuss climate change and sea level rise issues facing insurance companies and their customers. In similar lectures, Patton has talked about her company's efforts to manage climate change risks and help customers be prepared for climate change.

She serves on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Environmental Financial Advisory Board.

The ODU climate initiative was started, the release says, "to apply university resources to challenges predicted to come from sea level rise in urban coastal environments such as Hampton Roads."
