Old Dominion University offers summer camp programs designed to educate and inspire youth in a variety of academic and extracurricular endeavors serving children in grades K-12. All of our camps provide children with the chance to unwind, explore and experiment, learn and grow, discover new ideas, and work cooperatively with others all while experiencing life on the Old Dominion University Campus.

Big Blue Summer Camps

The Big Blue Summer Camp is a 9-week day camp for boys and girls ages 6-12. As an American Camp Association accredited camp, the focus of the Big Blue Summer Camp is to help campers develop friendship skills, independence, teamwork, family citizenship, competence, an interest in exploration, responsibility, an affinity for nature, and confidence in problem solving. Each camp week revolves around a different theme; however, campers will participate in the following activities every week: swimming, rock-wall, arts & crafts, and general fun & games. Some weeks will include a field trip to some local attractions.

Whether your camper masters the climbing wall in our Rock Climbing Camp or becomes a wiz at Pickleball in our Wacky Sports Camp - we're sure that your child will enjoy the experience and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Mission: Through quality programs, ODU Camp Big Blue develops youth, strengthens and supports families, and creates health and wellness for all.

ODU Camp Big Blue Activities Include: Special Events, Indoor/Outdoor Games, Red Cross Swimming Lessons, Free Swim,Pizza Lunch EVERY Friday, Arts and Crafts, Sports (Soccer, Basketball, Floor Hockey, Badminton, Volleyball, Etc.),Drama,Rock Climbing, Kayaking and Canoeing, Field Trips, Weekly Themes

ODU Camp Big Blue Hours of Operation and Location: ODU Camp Big Blue runs Monday through Friday from 7:30am-5:30pm for extended day and 9:00am-4:00pm for normal day. Camp will be CLOSED July 4th in celebration of Independence Day!

Camp is located in the Student Recreation Center: 4700 Powhatan Avenue Norfolk, Virginia 23529. If coming from 49th Street and Powhatan Avenue - turn left onto 48th street and we are located on the right - please us door in the handicapped parking lot to enter the Center.

ODU Camp Big Blue Staff: ODU Camp Big Blue prides itself on providing children with highly motivated and enthusiatic staff who will mentor your child. canidates must meet strict qualifications that meet and often exceed licensing guidelines. All staff must pass a Virginia Department of Social Services Criminal Background Check; participat is several training such as child abuse prevention, CPR/First Aid Training, OSHA blood borne pathogens and other staff licensing training. Staff also adheres to state licensing ratios to ensure that appropriate supervision is maintained throughout the duration of the program.

ODU Camp Big Blue Campers must remember to bring each day: Bathing suit, towel, suncreen, lunch and a drink, morning and afternoon snacks, water bottle, closed-toed shoes and a BIG BLUE SMILE and an attidtude ready to have fun. June 17-21 and July 15-19

Outdoor Adventure Camp

The Outdoor Adventure Week is designed to introduce campers to a variety of adventures and opportunities for growth. With outdoor education, enrichment and excitement in mind, this week includes rock-wall activities, canoeing and Leave-No-Trace training. In addition, there will be an overnight camping experience on the grounds of the Student Recreation Center for campers ages 8-12 from 4:00 p.m. on Friday to 7:00 a.m. on Saturday.

July 1-5 (4 days only)

Wacky Camp

This is a week to get crazy and let yourself shine through wearing the wackiest outfits you can think of. Each day will be a different wacky theme such as crazy hair and hat day, or inside-out and backwards day. Of course the games, activities, and crafts will be as wacky as ever! This week is sure to be a crazy amount of fun.

July 22-26

Sports Camp

Sports week will provide your child with a general knowledge of many popular sports and some sports that they may not know exist! This week is designed to broaden the athletic prowess of your child and give them a chance to discover a sport they may fall in love with. This week will include a field trip to a Norfolk Tides game.

August 5-9

Time Travel Camp

Time Travel week will feature a different decade every day! Costumes are encouraged. We will play key games, perform activities and build crafts from each decade and bring back some of the favorites we all remember.

June 24-28

Space Camp

During Space Week we will have incoming and outgoing cosmic adventures, including a trip to ODU's Pretlow Planetarium; where campers will fly into the infinite cosmos and gain an extraterrestrial experience that they will never forget! This week will be filled with fun outer space themed games and craft projects.

July 8-12

Wet N' Wild Camp

Jonah will have nothing on our campers this week, as they explore "Humphrey the Whale", a 64 foot inflatable whale! Campers will learn about life in the Artic from ODU's own Victoria Hill, and the week will include a field trip to the ODU Aquarium and Omni-Globe.

July 29- August 2

Super Hero Camp

The Outdoor Adventure Week is designed to introduce campers to a variety of adventures and opportunities for growth. With outdoor education, enrichment and excitement in mind, this week includes rock-wall activities, canoeing and Leave-No-Trace training. In addition, there will be an overnight camping experience on the grounds of the Student Recreation Center for campers ages 8-12 from 4:00 p.m. on Friday to 7:00 a.m. on Saturday.

August 12-16

Safari Camp

Our Safari Week is a great week for kids who love animals. This week will include many different recreational safari themed games, activities and crafts, and will end with a field trip to the Norfolk Zoo.

Engineering Camps

Descriptions of each camp and the camp's dates appear below. Online registration is available for the engineering camps by clicking the registration link to the right of the camp.

Nano Enginering Camp

"Mommy, Daddy, how does that work?" Build your child's understanding of the everyday world around him/her. This one-day camp introduces 2nd through 5th graders to basic engineering principles through fun, hands-on activities. The morning is just for the kids but Mom or Dad can participate in the afternoon fun.

Nano Enginering camp is offered to students who are 7-10 years of age.

This camp is a one day introduction to Engineering concepts in a fun hand on environment for our younger campers. The tuition is $99. per student.



The ENGINEERS RULE! Camp

6th, 7th and 8th grade "future engineers" will have a blast learning what engineering is all about. This exciting, week-long experience will build teamwork skills and electrify interest in engineering as a possible career. Hands-on activities engage students in mechanical, electrical, marine and civil engineering concepts, experiments and demonstrations. A bridge design contest and graduation ceremony on Friday will culminate this experience.

Engineers Rule! Camp is offered to students who are 11-14 years of age.

This camp is a one week long experience for middle school students. Each day we focus on a different discipline in Engineering. The tuition is $350.00 per student.

VMASC Camps

Old Dominion University and the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center offer camps ranging from Robotics to Game Development to 3D Modeling in an effort to enhance learning and a life-lasting interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).


Each of our popular Summer Camp opportunities, facilitated by university faculty members and researchers, is geared towards fostering engineering and design talents, providing hands-on demonstrations, leading innovative projects, all within an environment that promotes teamwork.
