LGBTQA Faculty/Staff Caucus:Meeting Minutes

Introductions

Recap of MJ's Social Event

  • 50.00 was raised from food sales, 460.00 was raised from silent auction. ODU Aramark donated 2 football tickets; Leadership & Student Involvement donated 2 spirit packs
  • *Reminder MJ's Tavern offers an ODU discount for all faculty and staff
  • Upcoming event possibly brunch at CROCS in October

Structure of Caucus

We would like to have Co-Chairs - Faculty Chair and Administrative Staff Chair

Duties could include:

  1. Representing the Caucus
  2. Organizing meetings and events
  3. Working with the various departments across campus

Time needed: 2-3 hours per month needed for planning

The survey indicated that members wanted the group to focus on:

  • Advocacy
  • Service
  • Social

Term of office would begin in October

Membership Fee/Financial update

  • 20.00/25.00 Fee was discussed. Members are encouraged to support
  • $500.00 of funding is available from ODU Equity & Diversity
  • We currently have an account at ODU Credit Union

Open Discussion

  • Host Monthly Socials - consistent offerings (Poll Best Day)
  • Provide Educational programming - better understanding of population
  • Serve in an Advocacy role - mindful of issues that impact faculty/ staff - hiring promotions (Invite HR )
  • Group has been invisible - how do we become more visible
  • Alumni Group - bring together - identity among us and on campus
  • Help people feel good about members of the ODU LGBTQA Community - self identifying
  • Be a resource for new faculty/staff/grads and create a listing of resources - benefits
  • Pull all of us all together
    • Spectrum, Gay Cultural Studies, ODU Out, Safe Space, Alumni Association , Faculty teaching LGBT courses
  • Provide Grad Student organization outreach
  • We need tangible giveaways - business cards, information brochures
  • Use university announcements / student announcements to publicize
  • Use outlook meeting time
